Cancelling the conference and moving on

We have received many wonderful abstracts and saw, that the topic of decolonisation is arousing interest. The response has been great, especially among European and North American scholars; unfortunately, we had only very few applicants from West Asia despite our efforts. Our goal was to stimulate a more thorough dialogue, including as many scholars from West Asia as possible, a goal we could not accomplish. The way it is now, we can not offer a balanced discussion, which was at the core of our intent for this conference. We therefore decided to cancel the planned conference and move it somewhere else.

To not reject the idea for this discussion completely, we have decided that we would like to move the topic to a session at the next ICAANE (International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East) in May 2023 in order to:

  1. try to figure out why the topic didn’t get more attraction within the West Asian scholarly communities so that a dialogue could not be realised
  2. attract more attention to this within the context of ICAANE
  3. prepare to address and discuss it within the framework of our session

We therefore invite you cordially to move with us to ICAANE (either as participant or audience), which will be held in a hybrid format in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2023, May 22nd to May 26th.

For further information about the event, please check the official website here:

We will let you know as soon as we have a positive response from the ICAANE board. You can check our website from time to time, as we plan to keep this website going.

We thank you all for your willingness to participate in our event and maybe at the ICAANE in Copenhagen. We would be delighted to see you there in our session, either digital or in person, as a presenter or spectator.

Best wishes,

Sebastian, Bärbel, Aydin and Aris
